Artist Statement

As a sculptor my work is about the correlation of form and space. Often evolving around the relationship between human and nature and what it means to exist in a socially constructed reality. Although many of my works are made out of industrial materials I try to distance myself from their given reality to present something that is far from corporate or impersonal.

My shapes and forms can appear deceptively random, but the balanced composition is perceptibly intentional. The process is often material based and I try to keep myself open to whatever happens during the work, this is a deliberate artistic strategy and part of a concentrated search.

The conceptual idea is apparent in my sculptures but I believe in the work of the hand to be a central aspect that adds further depth, quality and presence to my work. Overall it is is a matter of risk-taking that demands total shamelessness; you either expose yourself totally or become mere decorative.
